Once In A Blue Moon

For the past two years moons have been headline news, well at least in the Christian world. We've learned about blood moons, tetrads, lunar eclipses and how they line up with major events in Israel and the world. The skies have lit up with God's signs of the times.

This Friday 7/31 we will have another rare occurrences in the heavens, so rare we could say it only happens 'Once in a Blue Moon'. It will be first blue moon since August 2012 and there won't be another until 2018. This particular blue moon will be accompanied with a meteor shower. The heavens this week will be alive with soaring streams of light and a luminous rarity.

Because of the elevation and clear skies in Nevada, we are in one of the greatest positions for star gazing in the States. Last night I found myself stopped in front of a window looking out at a glowing mountain side; this almost full moon bathing our town in blue light. I began to think about this beautiful bright light and its stark contrast to the darkness all around it; so different from its surroundings that it causes many to stop in their tracks to look upon it.

Then I wondered how many people will look up to the sky Friday night in awe of the beauty of the creation; and notice how its light touches everything and think of Adonai. Will they imagine Him as far away as or even further than the moon? He is something so far out there either He doesn’t care about their lives, or that He doesn't exist at all. Without any understanding of who He really is.

And the light shines in the darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. John 1:5

The phrase, 'Once in a Blue Moon' has continued to run over and over in my mind. I thought about these times we have been chosen to live in. They are unique to eternity. We have been privileged to advance the Kingdom of God in these times. These days have never been before and never will be again. The Lord has called us to be the light to the people of the world.

the people who sat in darkness saw a great Light; and to them that sat in the region and shadow of death, Light has sprung up. Matthew 4:16

How many times have we recited Psalm 23, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me. In the above scripture these people aren’t walking through this valley they are sitting there. They have set up camp in this dark shadow and see everything from the perspective of this dim light. Luke and John say it like this;

to give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.” Luke 1:79 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth in Me should not abide in darkness. John 12:46

We should be like this Blue Moon, understanding the uniqueness of this time, brightly shining the light of Christ upon all who come into view, standing out in stark contrast to the darkness around us.

Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers, for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness?

Ephesians 5:8

And this is the condemnation: that Light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. John 3:19

Now seeing that, "The night is far spent; the day is at hand Let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ." So, “Arise, shine, for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. For ye were sometimes darkness, but now ye are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light"

2 Corinthians 4:6, Isaiah 60:1, Ephesians 5:11, 2 Corinthians 6:14

Remember this life is the shortest thing we will ever do! A vapor, compared to all eternity. Don't set up camp here, in this valley! You have been anointed to bring light to the blind and hope to the hopeless, good news to the poor, heal the broken, deliver the captive and freedom for those who have been crushed. Tell them Jesus is passionately in love with them and He is coming soon! (Luke4:18-19)

What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light; and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops. to open their eyes and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith that is in Me.’

Matthew 10:27 & Acts 26:18
